I enjoyed the readings this week very much because all of them revealed the tensions and conflicts in organizations. And this disclosure helps the organizational communication scholars to better focus on the problems and work on the ways to resolve them. It would not strike me that gender issue is a big part of these problems but how serious this issue can be struck me a lot.
I think gender issue is a major one over the world. In China, the situation for career women may even be worse than what has been revealed in the United States. It is stated in our Labor Law that maternity leave always begins from 15 days before the childbirth to 75 days after the childbirth but special cases are for those elderly primipara who are allowed to take 30 days more. Even though there is policy that says no companies have the right to disemploy any pregnant women, women still feel stressful when facing the fact of pregnancy. And for most companies, they would like to hire some female single rather than married because they think that the rate of single female to ask for the maternity leave is way much lower than that of the married one. Having a baby originally was the contribution that a woman can do for her family and for society but now turns to be a heavy burden for them.
As an experienced researcher, do you think from what perspective is better for future researchers to take a deeper look into this gender issue and find out the solutions?
