Bullis and Stout (2000) state in their chapter on organizational socialization from a feminist standpoint approach that “we need to criticize traditional work in order to define its limits and domain so that we see alternatives” (p. 48). They go on to say that they “address ways in which feminist standpoint theory may be helpful in reconsidering and expanding organizational socialization and theorizing and research” (p. 48).
After reading this article and relating socialization research to my research interest, Millennials, how might traditional assumptions of organizational socialization not work for all individuals or groups? What other perspective can we take when looking at organizational socialization? For example, the standpoint of women was taken in Bullis and Stout’s (2000) article but what about culture? What other individuals or groups do you think are being neglected when it comes to researching organizational entry and assimilation?
After reading the three organizational socialization articles for this week and understanding how each is written from a different perspective, how would each of these studies look if they were investigated or written from a different perspective? How might this change the study and findings?
