Zantel 10.14.10

Martin, chapter 8, discusses the shortcomings of oppositional thinking and the effects it has in the workplace. She refers to dichotomies created inadvertently through subcultures and the emphasis on superior-subordinate created within the organizational structures.

1. In what ways can we communicatively reframe how we discuss gender, race, and status dichotomies to eliminate the power imbalances that surface in and around us?

2. What have you observed in your environment that perpetuate these dichotomies? How, if at all, can we as scholars begin to bring an awareness to the problematic nature of oversimplifying culture by our explaining differences in terms of binaries rather than multiperspectival?
