10/28 - Shipra Gupta
I liked the article by Morill (1991) which talks about Conflict Management in organizations. Though the first set of hypothesis were not supported but the perspective that corporate executives embedded in loose knit intra organizational networks would handle conflicts via non confrontation and executives in dense knit networks will confront each other with grievances. I was trying to relate this article with Hirchman’s concept of voice where he categorizes voice as positive voice and negative voice. Positive voice will lead to constructive destruction whereas negative voice will lead to venting. I wonder combining concept of voice with conflict and seeing it across groups how the results will it be different. Will organizations in dense networks have more positive voice and hence more constructive destruction or vice versa?
