Zantel/10.7.10

1. I understand that this book examines the different perspectives of culture. However, it frames culture in a way, at least thus far, in isolation. In what ways can we shift the topic of culture to being more inclusive in the broader sense of organizational research?

2. As I read chapter 4 & 5 on differentiation as a cultural perspective, I was not sure if this really examined culture or were they just taking a critical look at the structure of the organization. I am drawn to the differentiation perspective, but I do not necessarily see its connection to solely culture.

a. What makes differentiation a perspective of culture verses a critical examination of the organization itself?

b. How can we use these perspectives without having a clearer definition of culture?
