In reference to the Ashcraft and Trethewey article Developing Tension: An Agenda for Applied Research on the Organization of Irrationality, they present the reader with many current organizational communication scholars who are recognizing the need to make irrationality within organizations more visible. When I got to the end of reading the article I found myself pausing and asking several questions: “What is organizational rationality?”, “Does organizational rationality exist?”, “Do organizations assume they are rational when they think they have found moments of clarity within an irrational system?”, and “Who gets to decide what is rational for an organization?” Ostensibly, these questions assume that rationality comes in many forms and epistemologies.
