This week, no matter Eisenberg, Fairhurst, Krone or Scott and Levis, they are all talking about the importance of the development of cross-paradigms, or multiperspectives if the study of the organizational communication wants to step essentially further. In Scott & Lewis’s essay, they even point out that doing common ground research is especially a challenge for those newcomers to this field of study, which made me think about my position and the paper about my scholarly identity I wrote this week.
Do those newcomers in their essay have ever done any research under guidance of a single perspective or paradigm? If not, are they afraid of getting those newcomers confused about those various perspectives? I know that to tell those newcomers that their choices of the theory or perspective are not limited is a way of inspiring them as well as encouraging them to create something new. But it still takes risks, isn’t it?
