Marlina Davidson - Pragmatic Developments & Conversations

Up to this point, we have read numerous points of view on organizational communication perspectives and theoretical paradigms. In Corman and Poole’s (2000) book we specifically hear about three different perspectives, post-positivist, critical, and interpretive. I’m not sure about all of you but sometimes I get confused on how everything fits together into the larger picture, the perspectives from this book as well as the others we've read previously. My question is how all of these points of view fit together.

1) How might we create a visual representation of these different perspectives?

2) Do you think we should try to blend the different perspectives we’ve read about in these articles into one comprehensive article or visual representation?

3) My final question is one that I asked last week but I believe is still relevant for this week's discussion. The book ends with no clear resolution on who’s right or wrong or what path to take, but what the book does say is that it’s the process of inquiry and criticism that helps us attain good scholarship. My question is on the idea that debating and defending our perspective is just as important as researching a particular area in communication, what do you think of this statement?
