Sara's Questions

Mumby and Stohl (1996) introduce us to 4 problematics associated with org comm: voice, rationality, organization, and organization-society relationships. They go on to briefly address how these constructs relate to pedagogy and education. The argument is made that organizational communication scholars should see themselves "as performing different roles from those who teach corporate, business, and management communication." Org comm classes should be devoted to theoretical and research issues with practical skills in the corporate world taking a backseat to analytic and critical skills. So with these ideas in mind, I ask:

1) Can theory and research guide business courses that teach practical corporate skills from a analytic/critical perspective?

2) Is it pedagogically necessary to separate what is considered "practical" from that of theory/research?
