Travis' Question 11/11

In this week’s readings I was particularly struck by Mumby and Putnam’s article “The Politics of Emotion: A Feminist Reading of Bounded Rationality”. In particular, the notion of emotional labor first mentioned on pages 471-472 immediately got me thinking of my own pedagogy. Mumby and Putnam state that “Emotional labor, then, is a form of organizational control of the heart…, through which individuals are welded to managerial interests” (p. 472).

In what ways do we, as teachers (and particularly teachers at UNL), experience emotional labor?
