Democracy in the Workplace is my favorite piece.Cheney(1995)indicated that the previous journals on workplace research are mainly about productivity, efficiency and competition. He argued that “to promote the ideal of humane workplace, a workplace not just for work but also for people”, is this too idealistic especially take collective and individual pursuits into accounts. I guess it depends on how much the overlap is and how a certain culture perceives the "value".The case study of Mondragon, seven research themes emerged. So my question is,
Overall, is workplace democracy in organizational context a large trend through participative consciousness today?
After reading this piece, I am still thinking about Weber’s(1978) question, I guess this would be a question for all the organizational researchers: how can a large, partially bureaucratic and economically successful worker-cooperative system sustain its humanistic value commitments over time?
