This week’s readings chosen by Baker, Travis, Zhou, and Marlina provide us with multiple perspectives on gender. I appreciate our focus on gender this week ... I wish that we as a society would realize that every week is "gender week"!
The fact that nearly EVERYTHING is gendered seems obvious to me, so I often wonder about how some communication scholars either overlook or choose to ignore the issue of gender in their work. Doing so, in my opinion, is foolish at best and intellectually irresponsible at worst.
- To what do you attribute the lack of interest in or attention to “gender” among certain communication scholars?
- In what ways does failing to consider gender in one’s research reify dominant organizational and cultural ideologies?
- How would you rate our (or yours, Jeff and Shipra) department’s commitment to producing meaningful scholarship that addresses consequential social and cultural issues?
